American Documentary Film Festival (AmDocs)–April 6-14, Palm Springs Cultural Center, 2300 E. Baristo Road, Palm Springs
.Next up, is the American Documentary Film Festival, and while each of these festivals is impressive and immensely entertaining in its own right, AmDocs is considered by many to be one of the most interesting and culturally important. That’s because independent filmmakers from around the world use AmDocs as a forum to celebrate and promote documentary film, and by way of their films and stories, bring knowledge and awareness about real people and issues.
Opening Night Reception – George Takei Live – Actor, Cultural Icon, Humanitarian, Activist
Anyone interested in meeting a living legend should make it a point to go see George Takei at AmDoc’s opening night reception. A special live, in-person award will be given to Takei, followed by the screening of ‘Allegiance To Broadway’, a documentary based on Takei’s true-life experience. The film is based on his life, from his early years as a prisoner with his family in a Japanese American Internment Camp, to that of a pop culture icon as Sulu, helmsman of the Starship Enterprise in the Star Trek TV series, and to his rise as one of our country’s leading figures in the fight for social justice, LGBTQ rights, and marriage equality.
